Support Service for People Living with HIV (PLHIV)

I'm healthy. I don't have any symptoms.
Not every STI or HIV shows symptoms. The latency period for AIDS is around 10 years. Although you may not feel unwell in the latency period, HIV is causing damage to your body slowly. Early treatment prevents AIDS.

I heard that the medicine is very expensive
Under government subsidy, Hong Kong residents holding Hong Kong Identity Card is entitled to receive HIV medicines and the charge is no different to that of general outpatient clinic. It is affordable to almost everyone.

I don’t want to to take medicine for the whole life
It will be difficult to accept it at the beginning. However, once it has become a habit, taking the medicine regularly can help you live a healthy life. If you have other questions relating to the medication (e,g. how many times per day? When should I start the medication?), please feel free to talk to us.

I know others are fine even without medication
Everyone is different, so does the effect of HIV infection on everyone. Doctors will provide a tailored treatment for each and every person infected with HIV.

Although everyone is different, the one thing in common is that after HIV has invaded the body, it will weaken the immune system and the body’s ability to respond to and fight incoming pathogens and illnesses. We recommend early detection and early treatment to minimize the harm caused by HIV to the body.

Undetectable viral load means unsafe sex is allowed?
An undetectable viral load does not mean that the HIV cannot be passed to others! Any STIs, such as Syphilis, genital warts or hepatitis, can also be passed to others through unsafe sexual behaviours. When the immune system is weakened, risk of opportunistic infections is higher. To protect yourself and others, always wear a condom when you have sex.

How is the life living with HIV?

You will find that life can be even more positive and motivated! Call us / Whatsapp us at 55445540 and talk to our professional counsellors.
